Antique Fishing Lure Intentions
Looking back, we see that the antique lure history is clouded by time and the
lack of foresight or the need to document the introduction of the early wooden
antique fishing lures. What we perceive now, however is the great lure designs,
thoughtful insight, and consummate fishing lure craftsmanship that characterize
the most notable and collectible antique lures. These characteristics the give
the lure collecting hobby its appeal but often cause the old antique fishing
lure hobby to become overwhelmingly complicated and difficult to learn and
understand. In addition, antique lures have increased in value in the
marketplace, creating a need for a clear understanding of the antique fishing
lure hobby before we make a purchase.
While most antique fishing lures are still affordable, there are a
good number that exceed the limits of casual affordability. These vintage
fishing tackle books will attempt to identify, date and provide and
approximate value of the most collectible antique lures available. It must
be remembered that lure prices can vary as widely as pork bellies in the
commodity market. The state of the natural economy, the variables of eye
appeal such as color, version, condition, and desirability based on factors
such as rarity and vintage all tend to prevent values from crystallizing
into a predictable pattern. Values of Antique lures rise and fall and
collectors learn to expect the fluctuations and adapt in a manner that
allows them to continue collecting.
The directions that lure collectors choose in developing
their collections can be awe inspiring. While some collect by company,
others collect lures by vintage, design, material or lure color. Thus, the
chapters in our lure books are divided up to and include the Big "10"
fishing lure companies; such as Heddon, Shakespeare, Pflueger, Creek Chub,
Paw, Paw South Bend, Jamison, Keeling, Moonlight. We also have a myriad of
Miscellaneous fishing lure makers (many of which had production rivaling the
larger companies) Metal Makers such as Chapman, Buel, McHarg are included in
these works. Not to mention the very seldom seen and exceedingly rare
experimental lures by makers such as Heddon, Shakespeare, Creek Chub,
Pflueger and more!
It is hoped that the old adage" A Picture is worth a Thousand Words"
is indeed true, for it is primarily with pictures that we present the subtleties
and nuances which make the Antique Lures desirable so that they can better be
recognized and understood.
